Mistakes we see most often

Accepting a rewire quote without asking which specific findings require it. Many older properties need a consumer unit, earthing and bonding upgrades and one or two circuits, a fraction of the cost and disruption. Also common is resetting a tripping RCD repeatedly without identifying the cause; the RCD is doing its job, and something on that circuit is leaking to earth.

What affects the price

Whether the work is diagnosis or installation. Fault finding varies enormously (sometimes twenty minutes, sometimes half a day) so it is charged by time. Defined installation work such as a consumer unit replacement or a new circuit is quoted as a fixed price.

Whichever applies, you are given the figure before we attend and we do not revise it afterwards. If something genuinely unforeseen turns up mid-job we stop and tell you rather than adding it to the invoice.

EICR remedial work

If your Electrical Installation Condition Report has come back unsatisfactory, the remedial work is usually specific and limited: a bonding upgrade, an RCD, a handful of accessories, a rectified junction.
